6 Life and Leadership Lessons Courtesy of the Military
Everywhere we look, there are examples of exemplary leadership. One source often overflowing with lessons to be harvested and weaved into our own lives and businesses is our nation's Military servicemembers. Whether it's the Army, Navy, Marine Corp, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Reserves, the mentality and strength of character that is so often revealed in these servicemembers' day-to-day attitudes is worth a deeper look.
Although I have not personally served, I have family and friends who have walked this path. They have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to gaining critical perspective and insights into life and leadership. Here are six of those lessons.
1. All-in, one-for-all mentality.
The most resilient teams — regardless if they are assembled in the barracks or the workplace — have a dedication to carrying out the overall mission. This is the driving force behind their success along with the fact that they'll encourage, motivate, and literally carry each other over the finish line if that's what it takes. There's a cohesiveness and comradery, a commitment to stay the course, push each other to be their best, and get the entire team over that next hurdle.
2. There's life beyond the mission.
